ELE PreK Community Meeting - February 19th

Would you like to learn more about our new GSRP PreK programs starting next school year and how to sign up?  The meeting will be February 19th at 5:30pm at East Elementary School.  It will be a short informational presentation coupled with a question and answer session.

The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program aimed at providing quality early childhood education to four-year-old children who are at risk of not being ready for kindergarten. GSRP is designed to ensure that children have the foundational skills they need to succeed in school and life.

Key Features of the GSRP Program:

  1. Eligibility:

    • GSRP is intended for children who are four years old by September 1st of the current school year.

    • Children must meet certain income or other risk factors (such as homelessness, developmental delays, or being in foster care) to qualify.

  2. Curriculum:

    • The program follows a research-based curriculum focused on developing literacy, math, social-emotional skills, and physical development.

    • It emphasizes hands-on learning, play, and social interaction to ensure children are prepared for kindergarten.

  3. Teacher Qualifications:

    • Teachers in the GSRP program are highly qualified, typically holding at least a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field.

  4. Locations and Delivery:

    • GSRP programs are offered in public schools, Head Start centers, and community-based childcare settings throughout Michigan.

    • It is typically a half-day program, but some districts or providers may offer full-day options.

  5. Costs:

    • The program is free for eligible families, as it is funded by the state of Michigan.

  6. Focus on Family Engagement:

    • The program encourages strong family involvement, including regular communication between teachers and families, as well as opportunities for parents to participate in their child's learning process.

  7. Goal:

    • The ultimate goal of the GSRP program is to prepare children for success in school and beyond by providing them with the skills and experiences they need to thrive academically and socially.

By enrolling in a GSRP program, families can help ensure that their child enters kindergarten with a strong academic and social-emotional foundation.

Thank you for participating in Safety Training last Week!

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our faculty, staff, and first responders for their participation and professionalism during last Wednesday's Safety Training. The training was intense, and everyone responded exceptionally well to the challenging scenarios presented by our trainers.

A special thank you goes to our guest speakers, Sheriff Ross, Lt. White, and SRO Fenlon, who did an outstanding job addressing over 200 faculty and staff members in the Main Gym. We also deeply appreciate all the first responders who were present to assist in the training. Your service and commitment to the safety of our community are greatly valued by Cheboygan Schools.

Looking ahead, we have scheduled the After-Action Review for February 18th at 9:00 AM. All Safety Committee members are asked to meet in the BR to reflect on the training and discuss the next steps.  Thank you again for your dedication to the safety and well-being of our community. I look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts toward creating a safer environment for everyone.

Quote for the Week: “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." – Ronald Reagan - This quote speaks to Reagan’s belief in inspiring and empowering others to achieve greatness, rather than seeking the spotlight for oneself. Ronald Reagan served as the President of the United States from 1981 to 1989.
