Sunday Soup

Good Sunday Evening,

Thank you, Plaunt Transportation!

A big thank you from our 2nd grade class and teacher Mr. Steve Chase for taking them for a ferry ride down the river on the Kristen D.  We appreciate their generosity in sponsoring this trip on May 14th.  It appears everyone had a great time and enjoyed learning more about our Cheboygan community.  Plaunt Transportation, Inc. is a family-owned business founded in 1932 serving Bois Blanc Island.  Good stuff…visit their FB page to learn more: https://www.facebook.com/plaunttransportation/

Congratulations Class of 2024!

Reminders, the HS graduation ceremony will be this week on Friday, May 24th, starting at 7pm in the HS gym.  The traditional graduation parade will start at 5pm, traveling from Downtown Main street to the HS.  Also, the Inverness Academy will be hosting their graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 23rd, in the HS auditorium starting promptly @ 6:30pm.

First Town Hall Meeting – Success?

This past Wednesday, we held our FIRST public meeting to discuss the details of the new Referendum Resolution for August 6th, 2024, Election.  The referendum comprises of three priorities:

  1. Addressing facility needs at East Elementary.

  2. Upgrading aged infrastructure within the entire district.

  3. Implementing important projects that prioritize safety, accessibility, and enhance the environment for our students, staff, and visitors at our schools.

This proposal is a zero-mill tax increase so your tax bill will NOT increase, it will remain the same, however, the passing of this referendum will allow the school district to renew our current depleting bond fund which will allow us to continue to maintain and create the best environment possible for our students and your children.

The school district will be posting updated referendum information at this site to keep you as well informed as we can and so that you have the facts:  https://bit.ly/cas-ref24

Summer Work Plans for 2024

As many of you know, we have another busy summer planned to improve our facilities.  As soon as school ends this school year, June 7th, 2024, work on replacing our HS bleachers will begin.  This project was approved before winter break and will take all of June and July to complete.  So, unfortunately, the HS gym will be off limits for most of the summer so plan accordingly.  However, when students return to school in 2024, they will have beautiful, new bleachers to return to and have for all of our events in 24-25 school year and beyond!

Also, we recently had three construction companies bid on our other summer project this past Friday.  The board will be approving the best bid at Monday night’s board meeting.  This particular summer project plan will address the HS Science Labs (started pre-Covid but never completed) and renovate our PE/Athletic Lockers Rooms to correct Title IX concerns and the disparity between the boys and girl’s locker rooms.

Book Study – “Drive” by Daniel H. Pink:

You should have completed your D&Q’s for Chapter 6, we will plan our last face-to-face meeting soon.  We are looking at next week, possibly May 30th, in the MS Library at 3:30.  Please let me know if this tentative date works for you.  Don’t forget to make a post in our Chat Room and also make a comment on someone else’s post for each chapter.  Reminder, you must attend the last FTF meeting to be eligible to receive your book study stipend at the end of the school year.

I especially liked the part of our book study that talked about “The 5 Steps to Mastery” …

  1. Deliberate Practice by setting goals to push and strain your current capacity.

  2. Repeat, Repeat, repeat those small improvements each day headed towards your goal.

  3. Seek Feedback that is specific…are you shooting a rifle or a shot gun at your goals.

  4. Focus on Where you need Help by working on your weaknesses, not just your strengths.

  5. Prepare for an Exhausting Process because if it was easy, everyone would do it.
